BP&C Rating: 10/10
Bar El Bosque is a classic cantina on the eastern corner of Chapultepec Park in Mexico City. There’s a more formal dining room where the older patrons play cards til late in the evening and a more casual bar area in the back - sit here. We first came here with our friends Francisco and Sofia for my birthday in 2024 and have been making a habit of popping in every time we are in CDMX.
The cantina has been serving this cute corner of Condesa since 1937. The menu is heavy and leather bound and boasts more alcohol than food, and the food that they do have is on the heavier side, perfect for alcohol-soaking.

An untraditional B&C choice, Bar El Bosque makes the cut for two reasons: It's one of our favorite places and you can make an excellent BP&C (Beans, Potato & Cheese) if you want to.
To make your BP&C get an order of the Quesadilla de Queso ó Papa - make sure you specify that you want both potato and cheese in your quesadilla- and a side of frijoles refritos.
Open the quesadilla a bit by tamping down the potato and cheese mixture to form a small well for your refried beans. Place a spoonful of beans into the well and top with green salsa. Enjoy while hopefully listening to live music and watching soccer on the small TVs above the bar.
