B&C Rating: 7.9
Burritos El Chavo was our neighborhood haunt when we lived in Studio City. It's one of those classic family-owned strip mall Mexican spots with vinyl orange seating that could be in any neighborhood in Los Angeles. It rates a 3.7 on Google Maps which would normally make us steer clear, but when you're on hunt for the best B&C you can't let ratings that are most likely about carnitas or al pastor or some other type of popular burrito sway you. And, as you can see from this B&C rating, you shouldn't let it sway you, either.
El Chavo always has great flavor and a great ratio of beans to cheese. Due to the soupy nature of their beans, this B&C tends to be a messier experience so have napkins on stand by.
The first time we went they didn't give any green salsa, but the next time we asked for it and they do indeed have it, and it's pretty decent. A recommendation for an optimal El Chavo B&C is to ask them to put it on the plancha for a few minutes to finish it off. The tortillas here are quality but they tend to leave the burrito un-toasted and having that crisper exterior with a bit of browning raises this B&C from a 7.4 to a 7.9.
